World Investor Week: Empowering the Next Generation of Investors
Happy World Investor Week! WIW is a global campaign that emphasizes the importance of investor education and protection.
This year, World Investor Week aims to focus on increasing awareness of digital deception and highlighting the importance of investing among the next generation.
These goals are particularly relevant as today's young adults begin making financial decisions that can shape their long-term financial well-being. Access to financial resources and guidance can help young investors understand the value of starting early, saving consistently, and maintaining financial discipline when challenges arise.
Gen Z Is Already Putting Knowledge Into Practice
Fortunately, many young people are already putting that knowledge into practice. In fact, data shows:
- The percentage of Gen Z households with defined contribution (DC) plan accounts is more than three times that of similar-age Gen X households in 1989.
- Gen Z savers hold nearly three times the assets in their defined contribution plan accounts as Gen X savers held at the same age.
While these trends are encouraging, there is still more work to be done. In fact, more than 50% of DC account owners under age 35 report that they likely would not save for retirement if their workplace did not offer a plan.
New Opportunities: Trump Accounts
The good news is that the new generation has access to more tools, resources, and opportunities to build wealth and prepare for retirement than ever before.
As part of new legislation signed on July 4th, 2025, anyone under age 18 can open what's known as a Trump Account:
- These accounts offer tax-deferred growth through investments in cost-effective funds.
- Families with children born between 2025 and 2028 are eligible to receive a deposit of $1,000 from the government to help jump-start long-term savings.
Looking Ahead
This World Investor Week serves as a reminder that early financial decisions can lay the foundation for a lifetime of financial security. For new generations who embrace investing earlier, the future of financial well-being has never looked brighter.
